Angel Charity Highlight: SEED
In this series, we will highlight Angel’s partner charities and their incredible teams and programs. All charities in this series have taken a revolutionary step toward sustainable giving; a direction we believe is the future of a better world.
Today, the spotlight is on the Seed Eating Disorder Support Services, SEED where we’ll get your questions answered by the charity’s own Stuart Abrahams, about how you can make a difference.
What is SEED?
We are a registered charity in the U.K, comprising a group of people with first-hand experience of eating disorders. The work that we do is focused on early intervention, prevention, awareness and providing support to those suffering or those caring for someone with an eating disorder.
An eating disorder has a profound psychological effect on all those who are part of the sufferer’s life. They too need help and support. We pride ourselves in the resources we have produced to a high standard, and the number of people we are able to help.
In the last year we have seen a 56% increase in direct referrals, 68% increase in the 10 to 19, and 109% increase in 30–39-year-old age groups. In illness ratios we have reported a 72% increase in Anorexia & 121% increase in bulimia. The need for more support is very much there.
That’s amazing work, worrying statistics also though.
Yes indeed, We were proud of so many things, but in particular, when our co-founder was awarded an MBE by The Queen in 2009 for services to eating disorders. They were nominated by a carer who spend 18 months working on the application and really appreciated the help we provide to both sufferers and carers. The increase in numbers is indeed worrying.
We’re also proud with our work and partnership agreements with MIND (Hull and East Riding towards the North East of England) and a number of Premier League Football (soccer) clubs working in their communities using our educational toolkit. As of January 21, Hull City Tigers, Rotherham FC, Middlesbrough FC, Nottingham Forest FC & Doncaster Foundation are all using our resources as part of their outreach programme, and we have commitments from Liverpool , Chelsea & West Bromwich & Everton Football clubs. We also have a growing number of primary & secondary schools using our age-specific educational toolkit.
Wow, you guys are busy. Can I see your annual reports?
As with all UK charities, our accounts and historical financial summaries are posted online at the Charity Commissioners website.
What will my contribution provide?
We are not a large charity, and are really pleased to be able to add those donating through Angel Protocol to our donor base. What do we need? Well as with every charity, the list could be endless… But here are some specific examples of how we will be able to support those with eating disorders, and those helping them. Your donation will really make a difference.
- £1,000 enables us to equip a computer lab with 20 PCs loaded with educational resources and provide ongoing maintenance and support.
In 2019 we launched our Eating Disorder Educational Toolkit — a valuable, easy to use resource developed specifically to enable schools to teach responsibly, confidently, and sympathetically about eating disorders, body image and well‑being. The Toolkit covers a range of interventions and approaches to enable young people to improve their emotional wellbeing and deal with the underlying issues causing the eating disorder and not using an eating disorder as a way of ‘control’
- £ 1,000 ($1370 approx) — would provide 2 primary schools and 1 secondary school the toolkit for a year. Almost 2,000 school aged children would benefit from toolkit access
- £ 2,500 ($3400 approx) — would provide 3 primary schools and 5 secondary school the toolkit for a year. Over 8,000 school aged children would benefit from toolkit access
- £ 5,000 ($6800 approx)would provide 15 outreach workers access to both primary & secondary schools toolkits for a year. Almost 26,000 school aged children would benefit from toolkit access
- £ 10,000 ($13600 approx) would provide 40 outreach workers access to secondary school toolkits the toolkit for a year. Almost 52,000 school aged children would benefit from toolkit access
- £ 20,000 (($27200 approx) would provide 20 Primary & 64 secondary schools toolkits the toolkit for a year. Over 100,000 children would benefit from toolkit access

Angel Protocol is an innovative new tool allowing all charitable organizations to access the power of endowments. By partnering with Angel Protocol, charities take a significant step towards financial freedom: a time when their operating expenses are covered by stable yields from their endowments and donations are used to drive expansion.
When charities own their own low-risk, high-yield endowment, their donors can now give once and have that donation continue giving year after year. “Give once, Give forever.”
If your charity would like to know more about how Angel Protocol can impact your mission, please email duffy@angelprotocol.io, connect with us on social media, or visit our website.
