In this series, we will highlight Angel’s partner charities and their incredible teams and programs. All charities in this series have taken a revolutionary step toward sustainable giving; a direction we believe is the future of a better world.

Today, the spotlight is on Global Brigades, where we’ll get your questions answered by the charity’s own Alexa Schmidt about how you can make a difference.

Global Brigades! What’s it all about?

Global Brigades seeks to empower millions of community members with the resources and capacity to thrive. Our local teams work with vulnerable communities in Ghana, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama, and Greece on three specific, life-giving areas: 1) water and sanitation, 2) health outcomes, and 3) economic development.

So, why Global Brigades?

Global Brigades started as a collaboration between a group of doctors and Marquette University students, to provide medical care to rural communities in Honduras in partnership with a local Honduran organization, Sociedad Amigos de los Ninos (SAN).

After the initial trip, our founders, Duffy and Shital, were inspired to ensure the mission didn’t end there. Global Brigades grew from that inspiration to encompass dozens of university chapters and hundreds of volunteers who are passionate about making change.

Specifically, GB seeks to enable clean drinking water, a capitalized caja, access to community health workers year-round, in-home public health infrastructure, and local leadership to perpetuate the projects into the future. We’re pursuing this with our Empowered 100 initiative, which is currently working to achieve these goals in 100 communities over the next 5 years.

What’s your role at GB?

As the Director of Marketing with Global Brigades, my role is dedicated to spreading the word about the impact that our non-profit makes and to connect interested volunteers with the opportunity to get involved with our work.

Is there a specific project that contributions from Angel will go toward?

Contributions from Angel will go toward our mission to inspire, mobilize, and collaborate with communities to achieve their own health and economic goals. Specifically, funds support equipping rural community banks with capital, training community health entrepreneurs, and empowering communities with access to clean water and public health infrastructure.

What is the best way to get in contact with someone at the organization who can answer questions and provide updates?

For general inquiries, please contact admin@globalbrigades.org. We’ll connect you with a direct staff member who is involved with your question and can help you out.

Can you provide a trusted source(s) where donors can learn more about the problem?

Challenges surrounding access to healthcare and economic opportunity are closely tied to the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals. To learn more about the specific SDGs that we address and the impact that we make, check out this page on our website.

Is there a way donors can be updated with the on-goings of the organization?

We’re very active on social media! Follow us on Twitter, Instagram or Facebook or read more in-depth about our impact on our blog.

Angel Protocol is an innovative new tool allowing all charitable organizations to access the power of endowments. By partnering with Angel Protocol, charities take a significant step towards financial freedom: a time when their operating expenses are covered by stable yields from their endowments and donations are used to drive expansion.

When charities own their own low-risk, high-yield endowment, their donors can now give once and have that donation continue giving year after year. “Give once, Give forever.”

If your charity would like to know more about how Angel Protocol can impact your mission, please email duffy@angelprotocol.io, connect with us on social media, or visit our website.

Stay tuned for future entries in our Charity Highlight series to find out how your donations can make a difference!
